Policy on Background Checks

  1. Background Checks

    1. All employees and volunteers need to obtain an on-line background check through Selection.com

    2. All employees need to be physically fingerprinted upon initial hire within the Archdiocese of Cincinnati. The BCI is for the State of Ohio only; the FBI is for the other 49 states. Only the BCI fingerprints would be required for parish / church employees.

    3. All school employees need to have background checks in accordance with State of Ohio Department of Education requirements. Contact the Archdiocese School office for current requirements and guidance.

    4. All school teachers and others who are certified by the Ohio Department of Education requirements. Contact the Archdiocese School office for current requirements and guidance.

    5. All employees need to have a B4 done upon initial hire within the Archdiocese of Cincinnati.

    6. All employees and volunteers as defined in the July 1, 2018 Decree on Child Protection (Decree) must receive and acceptable background check and must attend a Safe Parish program training before they can have contact with children. If any employee or volunteer has not received and acceptable background check result and / or not attended a Safe Parish program training, that employee or volunteer is not approved to have contact with children and may not have contact with children. In addition, all new employees within the Archdiocese of Cincinnati must complete and sign a B4 Form and send them to the Office of Safe Environment for Protection of Children and Youth before the new employee can begin having contact with children.

  2. B4 Forms

    1. All employees need to have a B4 done when they are first hired.

    2. The master B4 form can be found on the website, www.catholiccincinnati.org

      1. Click on the Ministries and Offices link at the top of the page.

      2. Click on the Human Resources link.

      3. Click on the New Employee Forms link.

      4. Click on the B4 Form/Applicant’s Certification.

      5. Have all involved people fill out both pages of the form – prospective employee and hiring agent – and then send it to the Safe Environment Office – fax, email, or mail.

      7. This is a two week process. The B4 forms are sent to the lawyers at the end of each week. The lawyers review these forms and return them the end of the following week.
